Hello, I recently bought a wireless rear view camera and I'm trying to install it myself. Please tell me if what I plan on doing regarding the wiring is right.
1. After mounting the camera on the trunk of the car, I will run the wire to the rear light junction. I will them tap the power wire for the camera into the reverse light power wire and the ground into the reverse light ground wire. The camera and transmitter is connected together with only 1 power and 1 ground wire. So I'm guessing that provides power for the camera and transmitter.
2. The wire coming out of the monitor splits into 2. One if for the power for the monitor and the other is to the receiver. The receiver also has a power wire coming out of it. So I'm guessing they bother have to be powered separately. I plan on running the monitor's power wire to the fuse box and tapping it into the cigarette light fuse and grounding it to a screw on the car body. I don't know what I should do with the receiver's power and ground wire. Can I run it with the monitor power and use the same tap for power? Will this cause a short? OR do I create a separate tap for the receiver power?
This is the actual camera. http://www.chinavasion.com/china/wholesale/Car_Accessories/Rear_View_Cameras/ Wireless_Car_Rearview_Parking_Monitor_Kit

The only problem I see is that you did not check with us before buying it. Save your money and get a real system. If you carried that garbage into my shop, we would not even entertain the thought of taking your money to install it.
Power the camera and transmitter at the reverse lamp. The monitor and the receiver should be powered from the reverse wire as well. If you power it the way you are talking about, the monitor will be on anytime the key is on. It will be lit up blue and say no signal until you put your car in reverse.
