We just bought a 2012 toyota sienna . i plan to remove alarm remote start and put into new van.  I need to determine if i need a transponder bypass .  I noticed that the key has neither a dot on the key for 40 bit or a g on key. Is there a possibility that it doesn't have transponder .  id prefer to not make a key and test it out that way or take it apart unitil i'm ready to install it

According to Directechs, base US models don't have an immobiliser.

I know for a fact that some models sold in the US do have an immobilizer but it IS possible that yours does not have one. I posted a simple test here:

Surely the quickest method would be to open the steering column cowling, 3 screws on most late Toyotas and see if there's a plastic antenna holder around the front of the ignition switch?

Since Toyota only uses RF signals my foil test is the quickest method to test and requires nothing but the foil. If the van starts with the key sealed then there is no immobilizer. If it fails to start or stay running then there is obviously an rf signal missing. toyota sienna key 2012 sienna -- posted image.

Boys, boys lets play nicely now. There's enough foil for everyone to make foil hats to keep the NSA out. toyota sienna key 2012 sienna -- posted image.

catback it's funny you say that. When my boss asked me why I needed so much aluminum foil, my response was that those nut jobs that wear aluminum foil hats aren't so crazy after all! toyota sienna key 2012 sienna -- posted image.
