I am thinking of installing daytime running lamps on an 06 Chrysler Town & Country for a friend moving to Canada. I would like to just use his headlights for this if possible. Can I do this with a relay or 2? I would be grateful for any suggestions.

To license the vehicle in Canada the daytime running light system must be installed by a licensed tech in many provinces. The system must perform like a factory system and interface with the lighting system and turn on and off with certain controls. I would suggest that he have it done once he gets to Canada.

If it has to turn off with the headlights as here, plus side to ignition, negative side to lo beam headlight.

Thank you all! I may just let him get it done in Canada, i don't know yet. @ Howie II. Are you talking about with using a relay? Can you explain what you mean a little further?

Get a DRL module. They make them. They run the low beams at reduced voltage to extend bulb life, and improve fuel economy over running them at full voltage. I have an AC Delco unit in my stash. It was about $40 in 1997. Worked flawlessly for 15 years until I removed it when I sold that truck.

Sorry Ben, power from ignition, goes to ground through lo beam.
If headlights are turned on, lo beam becomes 12v+ hence no circuit.
If I was thinking relays I would have mentioned them.
