subs, boxes, bears

Hey! This is a first post here. Thanks for the forum. Good to all. I have done some Car Audio for a while. Mostly in vans. I'm working on my Civic soon. I usually use Kicker subs because they're easy to figure out. They have good customer support and are available discounted. But I'm open to suggestions. The JL Audio subs I used once fell apart. Isn't there some listing of commonly available sub woofer drivers that shows recommended T/S calculated volumes without my having to recalculate each one individually all the time? When Kicker gives it's recommended volume, it's over a broad range. Thanks, I know that, but I want to see an ideal size for either or both a sealed or ported box by an independent calculator for a lot of subs, so I can compare them, not have to calculate one at a time. Also, how do you know if a sub is primarily designed for sealed or ported boxes? Or both, like Kicker?

The Theil/Small database used to be a good resource for this info, but it has not been maintained for years. Your best bet is to either simply use the manufacturer's provided info for the driver you're designing for or to invest in a Woofer Tester from Parts Express and measure your driver yourself. I notice your second post was one hour after your first one. Develop some patience. :)Support the12volt.com
