I Just installed a Viper 4204V remote starter into my yaris, 2012, hatchback, manual transmission.
I have a idatalink ADS-AL-CA bypass module that was programmed by the retailer for my car.
I have the D2D connector connected to the Viper's D2D port and the Pink Accessory1 wire and ground wires connected.
Also the Canh, CanL and immobilizer data connected to the OBD2 port.
When I put the bypass module into programming mode and turn the key to on, the light goes green and shows that it learned my key.
When I initiate a remote start the engine turns but the car does not start, the light on the bypass module is supposed to blink green at this stage but it stays DEAD.
When I hold my key near the ignition(not plugging it in), it starts up just fine so clearly its the bypass thats not doing its job.
I test 12v (11.8) on the pink wire when the remote start tries to start but the bypass stays silent :(
What is the trigger on this bypass that tells it to send the code, why is it not firing?
Is there something I need to do on the viper to enable the D2D port maybe?
I have the type 3 install, page 11 on this guide: http://cdncontent2.idatalink.com/corporate/Content/Manuals/DL-TL5/ADS-AL(DL)-TL5-EN_20140530.pdf

Sorry I wasn't a 100% clear on my connections to the bypass so just for clarity:
I have these connected like the guide shows:
D2D Cable
BROWN / RED - CANH
BROWN / YELLOW - CANL
ORANGE / BLACK - IMMOBILIZER DATA
PINK - IGNITION (+) INPUT
GRAY/RED - GROUND (-) INPUT

What version firmware is on the bypass module?
In D2D mode the GWR (ground while running) signal is sent to the bypass digitally over the D2D connection.
The firmware (version dependent) may not be compatible with the viper's D2D protocol and W2W connection may be necessary.

To add to CatBack's excellent answer :

The install guide you linked to is for an ADS AL-CA flashed with the ADS AL(DL) TL5 firmware.  That firmware will

not work with the required DEI DBI D2D communications mode between the Viper and the ADS AL-CA.  The correct
firmware for your application is DBI AL(DL) TL5 and then using this install guide :
http://cdncontent2.idatalink.com/corporate/Content/Manuals/DL-TL5/DBI-AL(DL)-TL5-EN_20140530.pdf

At this point you basically have two choices.

1. Use what you have and switch to W2W mode connections.  To do this you will have to make all the necessary
hardwire connections between the two modules, remove the D2D harness and hardwire the 4 pin connector
with power, ground and GWR, do a Factory Reset on the ADS AL-CA, set the Installation Mode to Standard and
re-program to the Yaris.
2. Take the ADS AL-CA back to the dealer and get it flashed with the DBI flavor of firmware.  You will have to set
the Installation mode to Data and then re-program to the car.

That is assuming the ADS AL-CA is truly flashed with the ADS AL(DL)-TL5 firmware and not the DBI AL(DL)-TL5

firmware.  The only way to tell is with the ADS USB cable and the internet connection to the ADS WEB site.

Soldering is fun!

Thanks a million guys, it's so refreshing to actually get some advice on this. I'm already balding and so far this install hasn't been helping me :P.
The place I bought it from made it very clear they don't really like to give out info and Viper's website explicitly says, "don't even try it get a pro" I've done a W2W bypass on a Mazda tribute before but that wasn't as bad as this one, still worth saving the $300-400 for installation fee I think to struggle a bit.
I have a co-worker thats going to take it to a friend that works at a shop that does this to reprogram it with the firmware you recommended and then try it again :)
So to confirm I do not want the Grey/Red Ground wire connected just the D2D port, comms wires and the pink ignition?
If I can avoid doing a W2W connection it would be really good since everything is already hooked up and wired (and hanging out of the dash at the moment haha)
Also another quick question the "door lock data" connection to the bypass, will that work when I have the lock/unlock wires from the remote starter hooked up to the car's lock and unlock wires directly?

The ADS AL-CA Gray/Red wire gets connected to chassis ground if your Yaris does not have the Factory

installed hood pin.  Typically, only the upscale vehicles with the Factory Alarm system have this hood pin.
According to Page 2 of the install guide, the module does not obtain and forward the Hood Status on any
model of Yaris.  Won't hurt to connect it to chassis ground.  You will have to install the Viper kit supplied
hood pin.

As for the door locks, that is one of the problems with D2D.  The Viper will probably output a lock signal on

the Blue and Green lock wires AND also send the same command out the D2D connection.  The ADS AL-CA
will pass this command along to the car, confusing the crap out of it when it sees both commands at the same
time.  Think I would disconnect the Viper door lock output harness and see if everything works OK through
the ADS AL-CA.

Soldering is fun!

Yes at the moment I don't have the hood pin fitted because I don't really see the need for it.
The kit has a valet switch with a giant read warning sticker that goes in the hood warning anyone working on the vehicle to ensure the switch is off. Putting that pin in just seems like its begging my poor car to start rusting there.
Tomorrow I hopefully will have the bypass programmed and installed and will test the lock/unlocks. So that "door lock" data wire is a 2 way thing that lets the ADS AL-CA tell the car to lock/unlock or to get the status of the locks?
If it doesn't work I'll just wire up the blue/green wires and see what happens.
