I'm not sure what I've done wrong, but somewhere I've definitely screwed up...I have an older Kenwood deck KDC 2019, hardwired because for the life of me I could NOT find the right harness to use with it, everything had multiple extra wires (pink, tan, etc..). So, my car has 2 purple, 2 green, 2 grey, 2 white,2 orange, yellow, red, black. The deck has 2 purple, 2 green, 2 grey, 2 white, blue, red, yellow, black. Essentially, I matched everything by color, ran the blue to my amp, and taped off the orange (don't have a clue what they are for). I don't like this guessing game to say the least so I figure Ill pull out the multimeter and see if that gets me anywhere....so to the problem, everything ran fine for 24 hours. Went to start the car after work and Ill got was a click. Boosting the battery did nothing (which makes me think it wasn't dead at all?). The dash flickered and presented error messages each time I tried to start it. So after trying to boost it for a good 20 minutes, I pulled the deck out and unplugged the harness, disconnected the connection to the battery - bam she started fine. So any ideas what the heck i"ve done wrong? Ive got a 12inch sub and 2 channel mtx amp. Thanks!!!

No problem. I did talk to a friend that does installs for futureshop (worth a try), but he has never come across the problem I'm having. Mind you for $30 they guarantee they can diagnose it and I can fix it, so may be worth it...

The problem is I could tell you how to do this wire for wire using only a test light BUT you may have CAN wires there a twisted pair which would complicate things. It's nearly 9:00 pm here but I'll come back to you later with the correct colours if I can find them.
Don't ever assume that what's say green on the Kenwood matches green on the car.
