pioneer bad am radio signal

Hi, I just installed a pioneer DEH-X6600BT to a RAV4. everything is
working well. the only problem is AM signal very bad. and FM is good.
any idea about this? thanks

What year Rav4? Many newer ones require a powered antenna lead adapter. The antenna circuit requires a connection to the radio's blue antenna trigger wire.

Also, AM reception in many aftermarket receivers is often simply pretty bad, and there may be nothing you can do about it.

i ran into this same problem most recently on an old benz, oem powered antenna was re powered up which was a task by itself but the AM reception was non-existant with the new radio. we switched to a glass mounted aftermarket powered antenna and the reception got a bit better but still horrible. sometimes its just the radio.
