Hello,
I received a Viper 5906v as a gift and it only came with the basic installation guide. Apparently, this is normal since they want you to use a professional installer. However, I'm putting it into a 1969 Chevelle that is going through a complete restoration project. The car is in no shape to take to a professional installer, but I am at the electrical wiring portion of the restoration project and would like to install the alarm now while the entire interior is removed.
I've done some searches on this forum and, while the information is terrific, it is all pretty car specific. The 1969 Chevelle has a pretty basic wiring harness as compared to more modern cars. This makes it a bit difficult to determine which inputs and outputs are required to connect on the Alarm module. I'm hoping someone on this forum might be able to provide the basic connection requirements for the 5906v into a car that has a simple electrical system. Perhaps a pro installer has access to the wiring requirements for the 1969 Chevelle? Frankly, it should be the same for any 1968-1972 GM A-Body (Chevelle, Skylark, 442, etc.).

Is this Chevelle fuel injected or is it carbureted? Majority of remote start units on the market, the 5906v included, are intended to be installed on fuel injected cars only. They don't have provisions for manipulating the accelerator pedal on startup. So if your car needs more than just turning the key to get it to start up every time, a remote start is going to fail every time you would need to press on the accelerator to start the car.
All that aside, most cars have the same general connections so you can still learn from a car that isn't exactly yours. You're likely to see ignition, door trigger, brake, hood pin, tach, power, and ground connections on everything that doesn't use/require a bypass and has a key.

If it uses a single coil, NEG (-) side of coil is your tach connection, frankly the rest, ignition, ACC, start, can be accomplished in a few minutes at the ignition loom with a test light, ditto door triggers at the kickpanel.

Thanks for the input.
It is currently carbureted, but I may either add a fuel injection system to the big block later or do an LSx conversion. Would you suggest simply not connecting the remote start function for now and connect it if/when I switch to an injection system?
I am assuming the alarm system will function without the remote start functions enabled. Is that safe assumption?
