rs82b 2005 nissan titan

Installed a bulldog RS82B in my crew cab 2005 nissan titan this past weekend and it went well with one exception. When i start the truck in runs for about 10-15 seconds then shuts off. I called bulldog and they told me to move the tach wire from the coil to the ignition wire. I did that tonight and it actually made the problem worse. Now the truck cranks for like 1 second and stops without starting. I have installed many starters successfully so i know what i'm doing but i'm certainly not a professional. I know the unit is programmed to tach mode and all other connections are good. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you do the Tach Learn process again after you moved the Tach wire?  Perhaps a Memory Clear would help.  You would have to add the remote FOB, program to Tach Mode and then do the Tach Learn.

Does the Titan have "one touch starting"?  That is where you can quickly rotate the ignition key to START and release it immediately.  The starter motor will continue to crank until the engine starts.  If this is the case, you could go with Tachless Mode.

No one touch starting in the titan. The tech support at bulldog said the tach learning feature doesn't really do anything on this unit but I'm going to try it today and see what happens

Does the truck have an immobilizer?

Yes it has an immobilizer but i know that end of the system is working properly. This morning i woke up and tried programming tach mode and it did the same thing. I turned off tach mode and it worked exactly like it is supposed to. It seems like having the tach wire hooked to the ignition makes the unit thing the truck is running right when the car turns over.

The ignition wire sucks as a tach, not sure why they told you the coil was no good. You could go to a signal wire on one of the fuel injectors. Wherever you get your tach signal, don't forget to learn it after programming it.

Thanks for the help. I don't know why he told me go to the ignition wire either. He also pretty much told me tach learn does nothing on the rs82b and the procedure in the manual doesn't work for it anyway. Once you are in program mode it says hold both buttons down and the lights will flash but that never works for me. It's a cheap unit so I guess I shouldn't complain

So essentially he's saying tach mode doesn't work. The unit may be cheap (I personally don't know how much they cost) but tach mode is nothing special or new, it's ages old tech. Interesting they can put a tach wire on the unit, instructions in the manual, and it not be functional.

I have found that the Bulldog units need a strong Tach signal, like those found on a coil / distributor vehicle. They can't learn individual spark plug coils or F.I.'s very well.Soldering is fun!
