I have a AC to DC converter in my garage for a while now. I run leds from it. I have only wired LINE and NEUTRAL to it,and I have been using it like that for very long now without problems. what is the EARTH input for, does it work the same as a vehicles earth?
Do it once,do it right - This means no short cuts. You never get paid twice for having to do the job twice because it wasn't done right the first time.

No.
AC earth is a safety earth. It can also shield/prevent noise, but is usually there to prevent you dying in case of an electrical fault.
But you may be fined or jailed before that if the supply is supposed to be earthed and you haven't earthed it.
I usually use PC supplied for 12V & 5V DC requirements. They all have appropriate local earthed IEC AC leads.
Otherwise I use whatever plugpack suits; preferably the lighter SMPS/switchmode (non-transformer) types.

Ah well, I guess that's what you get for not starting your own thread and asking.
Don't add new questions to an exiting thread unless it has relevance to that thread.
Sounds like you shorted +12V to 0V... 3-prong switched should generally not have both polarities connected except if illuminated, or maybe if needing dynamic breaking or non-floating outputs.

Mesa..English? Sentences? Grammar? Try to make it understandable and of course X 2 with Oldspark, don't usurp someone else's thread.
