Switch was broken off (don't know exactly how, 'friend' broke it). Bought new replacement switch, only passenger side worked complained to ebay seller and received a new one. This time neither worked and instead blew fuse where car wouldn't start. Changed blown fuse, but cannot get mirrors to work. Would this be considered an electrical issue? Perhaps the wiring was also broken along with the switch? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds to me like the new switch has an internal short.
Wiring should not break as a result of the switch - unless the whole thing was ripped out. Even then, if it blows a fuse then it's probably not a break but a short between wires or terminals.
As to not working, yes, it could be a broken wire or bad connection or blown fuse etc.
You should be able to test the motors directly using +12V & 0V (GND), and the switch(es) using a DMM else jumpers & test light.
