I am currently building a subwoofer box for four 12" pioneers, and I have a question about the speaker terminals.  Do i have to include terminals or is it ok to just cut a small enough hole in the box to run the wires out of?  Will these affect the bass response or SQ?  What are peoples opinions on this?

i personally like to drill a small hole for the wires and put them through, then seal the sh*t out of the hole so there is no air leak. but thats me. i dont like terminals because im always afraid theyll shatter from the bass.

I personally use T-cups(terminal cups) on any and every box that I build. If you choose not to then as project said to seal them very well so that you don't have an air leak. Although even I seal the terminal cups just to be on the safe side. This all will matter if you are building a sealed enclosure.

Terminal cups work, however are not a great connection. You'll find that many people who have been in the audio scene for a while simply drill holes and run the wire through..and obviously seal the whole air tight.

Hmmm, what 4 pioneers are you using, just outta intrest being that I currently use 4 tsw305DVC's in my s-10 right now. As for the wiring I refuse to use terminal cups anymore. I used to but unless I need  abox where I can take it in and out of the car quickly I would rather go with the sure conectiona nd solder the wire to the terminals then run the wire in one solid piece right to the amp. Seal the hole and you are golden.

i have the same speakers as you ravendarat, i decided against the terminals, and still have to put vinyl on the box so I can seal the wire holes, but the box is loud, but I am getting some strange sounds.  I dont know exactly how to describe it, but something is not right.  The main beat is ok, but its like a secondary beat that seems to be distorted or something. I did not get this sound when i had two boxes firing toward the back, but they are firing up now.  My old box was about 1.2cu/sub but my new box is 1.5cu/sub, could this be it?? any suggestions would be hepful.

I know its been said over and over here that you can use very small wire for subs but I always use 8ga straight to amp. No terminal cups either because there is no way they can handle the current. If you go this route just make sure you tie a knot with wire inside if box then seal it well.

Air leaks will make funny sounds. Get it sealed up then see if it still sounds funny.

BTW, About wiring direct to amp but need to remove box quickly, just use some big wire t-nuts. Most people who work with anything electrical will agree that a copper to copper twisted wire connection is the best. Better than solder. Everything in your house is wired that way.
