Hey everyone. Im new here and I have been looking all over for the answer to this question. I have replaced 4 speakers in my truck already. I put new 4X6's in the rear doors and new 6.5" in the front doors. There is another speaker above the 6.5" in the front door and i cant figure out what size it is. I want to put all new speakers in it. What a difference the new speakers make. 100% improvement in sounds quality. Any help is appreciated. THanks

There are two possiblities on those "extra" front speaks.

95% chance they are tweeters (.75 inch to 1.5 inch speakers strictly for high freq.)

4% chance they are 3" drivers AND a tweeter somewhere too (3 way system) - Never seen it in a GMC

1% chance I'm DEAD wrong and don't have a clue what Im talking about

pretty sure they are tweeters. IMO bypass them and put a set of new tweets on the pillar posts.

They indeed are tweeters. The easiest solution, and best sounding at that, would be to replace the fronts with a component set. Though I am not aware of any aftermarket direct replacement tweeters, you can retrofit almost any component tweeters in that space, a little backstrap and creativity will go a long ways!!

The rear is a 4x6, though I have never replaced those with aftermarket 4x6's, we just cut a little metal on the rear openings and install 6 1/2's in there.
