You can look at power acustic amps as well they are good bang for the buck.

yeah my power acoustic  TS960-4 is actually pushing more than the books RMS, not bad for 150 bucks new w/ warrenty.

for figuring actual power of an amp use ohms law. you can take your output voltage and the amps fuse rating to actually find how much real power you can achieve.

i usually go dow a volt when i do my calcs. my out put voltage was 13.8 so i used 12.8. you will end up underating your amp but just buy speakers with decent head room so you don't blow them.

i prefer to tell people my under rated watts than the rms or peak. i just feel better personaly when they say (wow thats loud and your only running 500 watts, that sounds way louder than my 1000 watt amp!) compared to (your running 960 watts? hmmm minds 1000 watts ha ha) it's pointless trying to explain rms, peak, and real wattage to a person who has no clue lmao!

i do believe that they were true on the wattage because i took a friends 1500w sub(dont know what kind but since it was a friends it was easy to not care if it was killed or not) and hooked it up, well the sub died so i know the amp is putting out the wattage it saies
Some friend you are lol.

I don't recommend Elemental Designs.  I've heard too many horror stories.

The power supply automatically regulates the voltage rails, so as to not produce too much current. By regulating the voltage rails, the output power remains the same, no matter what the load.
Personally, I dislike the idea, to me it shows an unwillingness to produce an amplifer that is capable of high current, and a "shortcutting" company. PG didn't USED to be this way, I was a fan years ago, but now? I'm not really so sure.
Haem, correct me if I am wrong but at the start of this thread you praise the JL. Is it not regulated as well? Is there something I am missing?

Yes JL uses this same technology in their slash series amps...same output from 1.5-4 ohms
Also I've been around the ED forums for a lil while now and it seems like they've gotten their amp problems fixed.
Thier amps come with a 3 year warranty and if it blows just send it in and they'll fix it or send you a new one...from everything I've read over there their customer service is awesome now

Heard the mention of high power amps here what are they and how do they compare to mono amps. I've seen hifonics advertise power outputs of 1600 and 2000 watts int he range of $200 - $350. How good are these amps?
