Hey all!
I was giving a tune up on a 97 Cadillac Deville took it around the block and the anit theft protection came on the dash then it said the car may not start. Sure enough it died and no power sterring or anything. I was able to coast it back into my driveway. Is there a way to bypass the anti-theft on this? I tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a while. The key itself has a resistor on it. I think this has the patsII. There is no aftermarket alarm on this.
Thanks!!

Anyone? I have taken the orange tubing and spliced it. I have tried a few resistor values with no luck. Is there a way to reset the computer(dash diagnostics) to reset the theft problem car may not restart message? i tried one value and the dash said turn the car on now but it did not crank and went back to the original message. Like I said before the car started and drove fine then it cut off. It seems to be reading the value of the key to the pcm. Is there a list of different values 15-20 different values I was told?
Thanks!

The VATS system and any other anti-theft won't kill an engine while you're driving around the block...all they will do is prohibit starting in the first place.
Try disconnecting the battery, rechecking the connections at the column.

i already tried disconnecting the battery and that did not work. I disconnected the ground to the engine block and that also did not work. I assumed it was the pass key that killed it but I called the cadillac dealership and they say it needs a new lock cylinder and key plus $450. I found a new lock cylinder from advance discount for $44. I asked him if the key needed to be reprogrammed he said not sure. i have been checking around and from what i found it said that the pass key can learn the new value on the new key. is this correct? anyone have info on taking the steering wheel off?
Thanks!
