here are the amps i am looking at for the wifes SUV.

hifonics; bxi1610d, zxi6410

planet audio; tq1601d, tq804

subs are alpine 12'' type r

mid/hi rf punch.

i have read good things about planet audio. and bad things about hifonics.

so far planet has my vote.

any one care to sound off on the two?

i know everyone bad mouths hifonics but ive seen so many set ups with them that worked great. yes there are a TON of better amps out there but its the best bang for your buck IMO. I know everyone on here would disagree with me...

Haven't heard Planet Audio yet. My BXI2610 is doing good enough for now with NO problems. I will be replacing it with 2 REF 1100.1s in the near future.

How about Audioque amplifiers. Better build quality, true numbers and nicely priced.

Ive read somewhere that Planet Audio is made by boss. Other than that I really dont know much about the brand.
Hifonics on the other hand seems to be very good for the money. Ive had a Brutus 1206D and a Zeus 4406 for years now and they are still going strong.

looks like i brought out the Hifonics fans! i have a bxi 2610d and a zxi 8408 in my 04 sebring. i am happy with them! i got them to "get me by" for now. but don't plan on replacing them till i have to.i am wanting some thing different for the wifes drango. the planet audio amps are priced a little better than the Hifonics amps and i read a lot of good things about p/a amps on here. but the p/a fans have yet to sound off on here. thank you j.reed i welcome any other ideas on other brands!

Why must it always come down to "how many watts can I get for the least amount of money?" If ya' can't stand to pay $300-$400 for a mono amp and a little more for a sub and enclosure, then wait til ya' can.
"That'll get ya 10 in Leavenworth,11 in Twelveworth, or 5 & 10 in Woolworth". Groucho Marx

money ain't a problem! why should i pay 600$ for an amp that puts out 100x4, when i can get one for 100?! watts are watts. if the amp will last and do me good im down.thats all.

yeah, watts are watts but for how long and with how much distortion?
distortion is the #1 murder of subwoofers. most companies rate the THD at 4 ohms but when you drop the load to 1 ohm you probably will get 10 times the distortion. the $600 amp will probably be designed to keep distortion in check. have you ever heard the term "clean power"?
i wish hifonics would go out of business, and planet audio used to be good stuff but their new stuff is junk. if you get PA try to find some of their older amps.
