where to stop fiberglass on mdf ring?

I'm using some custom flush-mount mdf rings for my speaker enclosure.  I have the skeleton built and I'm ready to wrap in fleece, but I'm not sure where to run the fleece to?  Do I put the fleece over the mdf where the speaker mounts, or do I stop it short of that?  Part of me thinks that I would want to fibeglass the entire mounting surface so that it looks uniform, but then another part of me thinks if I do that the mounting surface will become uneven and the speaker won't seal properly.  Any tips?

Yes my friend you want to cover the ENTIRE RING with the fleece. After you do your fiberglass layers you will have to CUT the whole where your ring is. As for the "seal" I assume that you understand that you will need to sand down the fiberglass and maybe use BONDO to further smooth out the surface. As long as you evenly layer the fiberglass you shouldn't have a problem with the speaker sealing properly. I use a strip of double side sticky tape around the ring where the speaker sit to further help with the seal. Good Luck.

I know this is an old post, but still wanted to chime in. If you're using flush mount rings cover the seating surface with blue painters tape. Make sure it is really covered well and you can avoid a tremendous amount of re-work trying to make that surface even again. After the glass sets up you'll be able to lift the blue painters tape and break off the resin there and have a perfect seating surface.
