This was in answer to an old thread:https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~126988~PN~1
I would like to add, that an aftermarket ignition can be added, capable of switching to a more retarded, or "kick-start" mode, to allow easy cranking. The post also had a good suggestion to check the ground connections. You should clean the "star" ground under the tranny area of the frame, to eliminate voltage drop. Another thing to look into is a switch or relay to turn off headlight when cranking. Hope this helps
That'll NEVER work!

Well it's a 2 year old thread, but it's good getting confirmation of the ground check - especially when specific locations & details are given.
And the ignition retard - that was not suggested and should have been. It's certainly easier than adding decompression.
(Actually a DIY add-on timing retarder circuit (delay) shouldn't be too hard, and using a $3 PIC could be used to modify the timing curve altogether - both for kickstarting and adding extra advance for Race mode etc. The latter is a PICAXE 08M2 project I have on my round-tuit board.)
And I can't believe I didn't suggest or confirm lights off when cranking! hard cranking on h d m/c's -- posted image. IMO that is so obvious - especially on bikes!
And it's simple to do - just ground the light relay's coil thru the cranking circuit or starter solenoid etc instead of hard GND. (And since headlights should be thru relays...)
There is a thread somewhere about auto-connecting a dual-battey hayabusa or similar for 24V to the starter motor whilst cranking...
It's times like this I wish old threads could be appended to, but this has a better title anyhow (with the right key words - yay!).
I thank you for your submission (I mean post!).
And BTW, welcome! hard cranking on h d m/c's -- posted image.
