Good day.Im replacing h3 55w lamps with 100w lamps.I would like to know how you normally do it.will it damage the wiring blow a fuse, will the lamp be able to give its full output or do you guys link it up with a relay?
Do it once,do it right - This means no short cuts. You never get paid twice for having to do the job twice because it wasn't done right the first time.

I always run headlights thru relays - especially halogens as they are more voltage sensitive. It's also to remove high currents off the switches.
In doing so I run my own distribution because my vehicles are oldskool without relays but I'd probably do the same on any vehicle if the total voltage drop (for halogens) is higher than (say) 1V.
My distribution is designed for no higher than a 0.5V voltage drop (ie, battery or alternator voltage compared to voltage across the bulb).
I also use self resetting circuit breakers - usually BIG fuses at the distribution source(s) (I usually have split distribution for redundancy whether left/right or hi/low, and headlight flashers are usually on independent circuits) with a breaker & relay for each filament.
Therefore existing wiring & switch rating is irrelevant, but otherwise it's a case of what existing distribution handles.
