I sw a mates toyota today ad it is some how set up so Head lights turn off when engine is off and door is opened, he can leave them in the turned off position and they wont come on again until he starts his car. His engine bay is a mess of wires, I tracked down a relay which activates when the lights are coming on and off, but that's as far as I can figure it out due to the mess, Can some one give me an idea on how to apply such a system to my Nissan, I have a DEI night light set up so I don't have to worry about turning lights on or off during night driving, but thought this would be a handy feature for when using the lights during daylight hours.. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Marc

The DEI Nightlight has a Daytime Running Light function in it. The Install manual is in the Download section. Read up and refresh your memory about its capabilities.  I don't think it has a "stays on until door open", nor do I recall the headlights stay on during daylight, but this could be incorporated using 2 relays. Look in the Relay section for a suitable "latch" set-up.

Ok, try this one.

Connect "Accessory from Switch" to hot with IGN

Connect  "Radio's Accessory Wire"  to the headlights.

I would suggest connecting "Fused  12 Volts" to the same source that the headlights get their power from. Ie, the same circuit, so you don't back-feed something.

The relay on the right keeps the lights on with the door open, and key ON. If you don't need this, you can eliminate the relay on the right. Connect the door trigger to #85 on the center relay. When you open the door, the lights go off,  Close the door, and they come back on

If you have positive trigger door pins, there is another relay diagram in the Relay Section for Positive door trigger.

I have had the DEI kit installed for over a year, it has worked great.. Today driving home it was working due to heavy cloud cover, then the lights turned off. Tonight when I went out I noticed my headlights were not on. When I got back home I turned the head lights off manually but the stayed on and timed out as they should. I tried several times, switching the head lights on manually and some times the DEI would kick in and work, this worked after 3 tries then on the 4th try Nothing. If any one can point me in the right direction on where to start fault finding and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....
