I'm in the process of installing a RPi media center into my car for the kids and I see 2 problems. I've had a hard time finding high amp switched power in my car. All of my 20A cig lighter plugs are full time on.
I bought a 12 V Key Fob switch (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LMICSIQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00) which will work just fine but I'm hesitant to expose it to the car power and cranking. Thinking it will burn it out quickly. Please shed some light on this. Can I just hook it up to my lighter plug and will it last?
My other thought was to put some sort of 12V timer delay behind it so it wouldn't get power until all the cranking was over with.
I know there are a ton of circuits available, but I'm not an electronics guy so I don't want to build it. I've seen a few on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/SRD-12VDC-SL-C-Triggered-Timer-Delay-Module/dp/B00KHRJGDS/ref=sr_1_cc_5?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1443914339&sr=1-5-catcorr&keywords=DC+12V+Delay+Timer) , but they have horrible reviews for being defective.
Does anyone know of a good product that I can use, or do you think I'm overdoing it and should just connect the 12v fob device right in? Sure would be easier. Guess I could try it, for 17 bucks if it fails it won't be the end of the world.
Interested in what you have to say. Thanks,
Roveer

I couldn't open that file, good old 404, another alternative would be a DEI 528t timer, 20 amp power handling.

Oh well... www.gmupfitter.com , go to body builder manuals, view light duty, then light duty prior to 2011, scroll down to light duty 2003, open folder then open folder C/K MCE Truck & Utility. Pages 198-200
