First off I have a 1998 Lincoln Town Car
The alarm I have installed is an Autopage RS665 2WA
I had everything powered correctly. The remote start was working fine for about 3 weeks until it stopped working. I discovered that the main fuse with the two 20 amp fuses and fuse holder melted. So I reinstalled some new fuse holders and new fuses and it was working again. Checking my work I touched the Acc/Heater output wire from the brain and it was warm almost hot while the remote start was working with the a/c on. I even tried setting it to a medium and I still had about the same result. A few more remote start cycles after this I lost my Heater/ACC circuit from the brain and the ACC 2 circuit from the brain. It remote starts but not as before where all the dash lights illuminate and the HVAC system doesn't turn on until I insert and turn the key.
Soooooo my question is...
I managed to find another brain to use and everything works fine.   But I didn't hook up the Heater/ACC or ACC 2 wires permanently (disconnected for now). Do I need to use a relay to run the Heater/ACC circuit?? I'm thinking I do if it draws more current than the brain can supply. I find it weird that the heavy gauge wire harness has all these heavy wires but only one main ground wire.
Thanks for any info/advice I can use.

Hi,
Can you list wire colors at the ignition switch and what they are connected to on the remote start? If the vehicle has two pink/blacks, 10 gauge, those wires are in parallel at the ignition switch. They are fed by the two yellows, 10 gauge. These are for the climate control. Because of the current requirements, an external relay would be recommended. Wire relay to give power as accessory. Terminal 30 to yellow, terminal 87 to pink/black, terminal 86 to remote start accessory (not familiar with Autopage product), and terminal 85 to negative output (either ground while running or ground for accessory relay). Hope that makes sense.

The problem is Autopage uses thinner wires than most and only has 20a fuses. You can replace the fuses with 30a but they will get hot. You can install outboard relays with thicker wires or replace with a brand with thicker wires and a true 30a current handling. A lot of remote start brands are going to thinner wires because most cars now have low current ignition switches. I use compustar because they have both options. Low and high current outputs.

I wired a relay on the heater/ACC wire and I have no problems as before.
Thanks for the tips.
