Right now I currently have a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab with the Bose system. The previous owner of the truck had a sub woofer and an amp professionally installed while keeping the stock head unit and stock Bose factory system and using a line out converter. I don't particularly care for the way the sub woofer/box sounds, to me it picks up more of the mid range bass, not a deep bass.
Here is the current set up that the previous owner had installed:
1 12 inch Kenwood KFC-WS12 Shallow Mount Subwoofer (4 Ohm, 100-350W RMS Single voice coil, seal box volume 0.8 CUFT, ported box volume 0.8CUFT) (12 In Kenwood KFC-WS12)
1 Alpine MRP-M500 Amp (Mono Amp, Class D, 300W RMS X1 @ 4Ohm, 500W RMS X1 @ 2 Ohm) (Alpine MPR-M500 Amp)
1 Fierce Audio SM112.1 Truck Box Sealed (fits behind the rear seat against the rear wall. (Fierce Audio SM112.1 Sealed Enclosure)
I have always been a ported box "sound" fan. I like the "deepness" and "feel" of the bass. I want to keep the stock head unit and bose system but don't want to spend a ton of money trying to make the bass sound better.
Now, here are the questions/options.
Option 1, should I try to port the existing box that is installed to see if that would help the "deepness" of the bass?
Option 2, should I buy a ported box and put the KFC-WS12 in it while using the same amp to help? Here are some that I found: (Fierce-Audio-Slot-Ported-Subwoofer-Enclosure) OR (Fierce-Audio-Slot-Ported-Subwoofer-Enclosure) (Metra Ported Single 12" Truck Box)
Option 3, I have had several ProBox enclosures and have been really impressed with the sound that is produces from them. The last truck I had was a 2012 Ford F150 with a ported probox enclosure and an 8 inch probox sub running at 2 ohms paired to a JL Audio JX500/1D Amp. It sounded great connected to the stock headunit and for a small 8 inch sub the "deepness" of the bass was great. They make a loaded box from Probox for my chevy but will cost $550.00 just for the box and sub. The 10 inch sub that comes with the loaded box is rated at 800 RMS, meaning that I would have to buy a larger amp. (Chevy Crew Cab Loaded Pro Box)
Option 4, buy a ported box (like the ones above), find a 2 ohm 12 inch sub (like a kicker comp RT) and use the same Alpine amp or the JL Audio JX 500/1D I pulled from my previous truck so I can run 500W instead of the 300W.
Which one of these options would be better or get me to where I want to be as far as clean sounding "deep" bass? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I am open to other brands/subs/boxes/things I have not heard of, just as long as they are good quality.
Thanks.
