Viper 4204

Hi.I was thinking of purchasing a Viper 4204 RS. Previously I have installed an Autostart. I was looking at a copy of an install guide and it appears vague/more confusing than the Autostart. For example, I don't see any output specifically listed for park lights. Also, on the H3 connector, pin one is listed as ignition 1 input/output. How can it be both? Not sure where H3 pins 5 and 8 would connect. Obviously, Viper is a quality product. I'm wondering if install instructions are not clear intentionally so they have to be professionally installed? Maybe I just need a couple of pointers to clear up the wording of the instructions for me so that things click? I don't want to rule out installing a Viper product. Any help appreciated...

They combined the ignition sense and output together to eliminate a wire connection, It senses the ignition when key is turned on and also outputs to ignition when remote started. All the Heavy gauge Red, RED / Other are Battery constant power inputs for Remote start internal relays. Also has internal relay for parking lights and Pin 30 is the output just like a external relay. If your vehicle doesn't need the Parking lights isolated you would just connect to parking light wire H1/5 White to vehicle parking light wire like before with Autostart as the wiring color and function has remained unchanged for all DEI products. If isolation is required then you would cut the vehicle parking light wire and connect switch side to H1/4 and Light side to H1/5.

Thanks, Lurch. That definitely helps. You know, when I replaced the stereo in my Ranger I noticed that the wires were somewhat color coded. It didn't occur to me that that might be the case with remote starts as well. Thanks.

Smokeman, I was looking at a 4204, new in box but it may have been sold already. :(   Looking for something for a relative's car, a 2004 Chev Optra, which I understand is similar to a Suzuki Forenza. From what I've researched and seen on her car, any security/immobilizer is set only when the button on the key fob is pushed. The button hasn't been working for a while so all 4 doors open when the key is turned now. So it appears to me it may not even need a bypass.

DEI is the parent company of many brands past and current as they have eliminated a few brand names, current brands like viper clifford python avital and they all use the same wiring colors. Voxx is audiovox prestige codealarm ect. You will get the the same electronics in any series whether is viper clifford or python just different branding. Some of the newer avitals are the same as the rest now. With self install the only warranty you will get will be what the seller offers, as self install voids the DEI warranty direct through them.
