Hello all. Has anyone performed a clutch bypass for remote start in a 2004-2007 Volvo S60R or V70R. Tech diagram says -resistor for polarity and the wires are black (in), brown (out).
Does this mean at the beginning of the remote start sequence, negative trigger through a resistor to the black (in) wire at clutch pedal? If so, what value resistor should be selected? Thanks.

Measure the resistance across the clutch switch when depressed. Then match the Resistance to the out side of clutch from the remote starter (-) Starter output.
Make sure you are using a Remote Start unit that is designed for Manual Tran .

Thank you lurch228. Yes the unit will be in manual transmission mode. Will give that a try and report back.

If the Tech diagram says (-) resistor then it's a computer sense loop also know as a interlock typically. So in the event that the switch fails and shorts to ground when not depressed the vehicle still won't start due to resistance not being matched. If you don't have a (-) start output then use a relay to the Starter wire to 86 and 85 to the R/S status (-) output, 87 to ground, and 30 with resistor to the Brown out side of clutch switch, so relay is only active when in R/S mode. Depending on the brand of R/S unit you buy will determine what wire you can use to only activate the clutch and relay bypass when R/S is active and there is a starter output.

Update. The above suggestions did not work. When it came time to test the remote starter (DEI unit), no crank. Put my foot on the clutch, it started right up. The DEI unit does have -starter out and I wired that to a SPDT relay with 87 to ground and 30 to the resistor (200 ohm) to the out wire of the clutch switch. I then tried varying the value of the resistor, just in case there was some parallel resistance occurring which would effectively lower the overall value. I then unplugged the switch before attempting to remote start the vehicle, with the resistor and relay circuit still intact, the car started. I then removed my added resistor circuit and attempted to start the car, it fired right up.
End result, a simple interrupt with 85 to -starter, 86 to 12V, 87a to clutch out (brown wire) vehicle side, 30 to clutch out (brown wire) switch side.
For anyone who is interested, the measured resistance of the clutch switch through its travel was 189 ohms fully depressed to the floor, and 750 ohms at rest.
Lurch228, thanks for your help.

With the 750 ohm resistance of the switch at rest you would need a 250 ohm resistor connected across the switch which will lower it to 187.5 ohms, to match as close as possible the 189 ohm fully depressed measurement.
87 to Black, 30 with resistor to Brown, 85 to (-) start output, and 86 to 12v.
Basically adding a resistor in parallel to the at rest resistance to lower the resistance to the fully depressed measurement.
This will match the function of the clutch switch.

Since this vehicle is not in the vehicle wiring section could you start a new post with all the vehicle wires, colors polarity and locations for the next person. Thanks
