*Process is standard -- taking out Stock Ford Dash Radio/CD changer and installing Aftermarker unit for Navi/Radio, etc..
i have already seen all the postings for wire/color codes.....but i cannot seem to find out a simple answer to what the two Ford wiring harnesses that connect to the back of the Stock Ford Radio go to.
Both have duplicate wire colors (speaker colors) and both seem to have Constant and Ground wires.... i am totally guessing, but the larger plug seems to be for Radio, power and speakers ... but i have NO CLUE what the smaller plug might be for ... seems either Rear DVD system or indash CD ...
Does anyone have a clear answer to what each harness (large 40+ pin and smaller 20+ pin) does ? sorry, want to understand their purposes before trying to match back to original Ford colors for function.
Greatly appreciate any info
Thank you!

Does exp = explorer or expedition?
Metra 70-1771 or 70-5520
No idea what the second plug is for.

just rechecked the Ford Stock harnesses in the car.... they are actually a 16pin and a 24 pin. Many wires not used in 2nd smaller harness (16pin one) so really want to know what each harness is for so that i can decide whether to solder wires in after market adapters or just not use at all.
thank you!
Thank you!

Go to metraonline.com and search for 701771 and see if that looks like what you need. The other plug is not needed to install an aftermarket radio in that vehicle.
If the 1771 does not look right, look at the 705520

Thank you!
Played More today and found 2nd harness controls rear dvd player.
1st harness is main and worked well. Dont bother with 2nd harness.. does not work (wiring setup incompatible). Just rewire to give power (Grn/Blk) to Dvd and then add 3.5mm audo jacks to dvd unit (headphone jacks wont work at back of center console once you remove 2nd factory harness)
Also, My opinion its easier to tap into reverse wire on driver side vs passenger side...
Thanks to forum members and previous posts for good ideas, info...still took me an entire day due to problems with rear dvd and reverse not coming on automatically, but all figured out and complete now.
Thank you!
