The extra 12vdc accessory outlet will be for my extra cell phone.  Do I still need to run a wire direct from the battery?

you dont have to run a wire direct from the battery.
Simply grab one from the radio harness..or better yet grab one from under the steering column (ign harness)
If you want it to be on all the time...grab the constant 12+ wire..if you want it to be on when the vehicle is running...grab the switched wire (ignition
Ignition harness: (recommended)
12+ constant =Yellow or Light GREEN/ Purple
switched (ignition) =RED / Light Green
Radio harness
12+ constant =GREEN/ YELLOW
switched (ignition) =Yellow/Black
for ground, just use a self tapping screw and screw it to a good close spot.
With a torch and a big enough hammer...it WILL friggin fit!!

TO add to what kidtransam said if it is easier just tap into the power from current cig. lighter.
