I think shows like pimp my ride is bringing a bad rep to this biz. I became an installer because it was a low key career with lots of pay ,now its some type of tv joke. "Unique Whips", now thats a show that displays real installers at work. MTV and other networks are making alot of money broadcasting this dumb commericals and stuff. Seems kind of like a joke. Can't wait until things are back to normal.

Hey i know what you mean and I am by no means in the installation business. I know basics of car audio and other things and when I watch that show I feel like the show takes away from the creativity you see and how cool competition cars are. People look at something I think is awesome and dont think its cool because it doesn't have a hot tub or pool table in the back like on pimp my ride. I dont know if this is what you were talking about or not but thats my opinion.

Oh!  I thought you said lots of PLAY.  lol

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Some of PMRs stuff is dumb (the hottub, the tv under the car, the projection screen etc.) But some of the cars they have done I liked, paticualrly the Eclipse they did last episode, the old chevy (55 I think) and some of the ones from the first season like they cutlass.
I have never watched Unique Whips (i dont have speed channel) but I have heard it is more about the dynamics of the owner and employees then it is about the cars. Also I would rather see a regular joe get his/her ride pimped then a spoiled rich celebrity get theirs tricked out by unique autosports or whatever the place is called.

Here's my take: is the show more about "bling" than sound? Sure.
Does it still increase interest in car audio? Yes.
This can only be good for the industry.

I don't know why everyone bashes on WCC and PMR. As a custom installer you need the mentality of "I can do anything"; and these guys are some of the best at doing so. Mad Mike told me himself that at this level you have to be over the top and give customers what they've never seen before, otherwise it's not truly custom. The genius and engineering that goes behind these projects are often overlooked because the some of the things aren't practical in an automobile. But who the heck needs a pounding system anyway?
And like I said before Unique is by no means a custom shop in my book! I did those kinds of installs when I worked for circuit city.

Really, if you think about it, this only affects the pimps out there. I mean, what have they got to look forward to now?

Please tell me you don't believe this. Is it good for the industry when idiots walk in off of the streets wanting you to put a hair drier, waterfall, popcorn popper, dog washing station, or any other rediculous item into their car???
I am just kidding but the show is still stupid as ****.

Good point sweekster, i think in the midst of the arguement, we forgot whos reputation is really getting hurt, pimps and their rides.

auex: I agree. It is stupid and -most- of the things they do are stupid. I was referring to the general increase in interest towards car audio work.
