I still haven't gotten a GPS reciever or software but I think I'm gonna go with iGuidance and a BU-303
I got both of these, and it is a great combination. Just plan on mounting the GPS reciever outside of your car, I can't get any locks with it on my dash (maybe it's to close to any electrical stuff). I'll have some pics as soon as I find my digicam =\
I have to say, running My sound throught the sound card of the PC sounds a LOT better then my old HU. I just need to hook my amps up tot he delayed REM wire on my startup/shutdown controller so that i don't get that POP from them.

sorry for the huge ass pictures
as you can see the glare is prety bad durring the day. But i'm trying to make some kind of shield for it. Aslo you can see the wireless USB NIC in the bottom and the GPS reciever on top. But the GPS reciever is going to be moved to the top og the trunk lid as soon as I get some time (hopefully tomorrow or monday).

I just ordered iguidance and a BR-304. The BR-304 is just like the BU-303 except it's serial instead of usb. I still have a bit of glare and I'm gonna look around and see if there is any sort of film that we might use to help out a bit.

This looks a little too good to be true, in a cheap infomercial way. This looks like it may work, if it can be trimmed and won't interfere with the touchscreen. Anyone have any experiance with either?

Yeah I have the liquid smoke skin. It's the best one I've seen. I've altered it a bit too.

Hey oonikfraleyoo

How are you going to have the system shut down everytime you turn off the vehicle?  If you just stopped the power to it, the OS wouldn't be too happy.  I was thinking about putting a carputer in my vehicle, but couldn't get around the whole idea of shutdown each time.

CarPC EZ 2.4 - It's a shutdown controler made for putting a computer in a car. There is a link in this thread.

Hey guys, it's been a long time since I have posted.

As some may know I have also been working on a carputer, except mine is a cut-puter (that doesn't sound as nice as Jeeputer, maybe I need a Jeep) since my car is a Cutty.  I could call it a Cuttyputer, but that sounds worse.

Anyway, I had someone recommend the brialliant idea of having a PC with tons of RAM and having the OS boot to RAM, so I don't have to worry about the hard drive, since a harddrive can be toast after even a small pothole, another person recommended using bootable USB flash memory, which is what I may do.  But the USB memory will probably require some hacks since windows loads the driver to even recognize the USB port is in use, I will figure that problem out later.

I am building mine on an extremely tight budget, like spending no money if I can help it, so I am building a voltage regulator and just bypassing the powersupply, since if you use an inverter plus a computer power supply, you could get the nasty ground loop noises; currently I am just building a personal version of Linux and trying to debug everything, plus getting some extra PCs for the parts I will most likely fry during the installation/test.

Then again, if I had $500 to spend I would just scrap everything and buy this especially since it's only about 2 inches tall, although I am not much of a fan of Macs.

I definetely do not want to forget to tell oonikfraleyoo that I have been waiting for ever since I saw the progress bar at 25%, I am glad you are almost finished, and it looks like this will turn out great.

Great job man!!!

eh? what did you just say?
