Eclipse Head unit CD5423

I think I know the answer, but here goes.  I was helping a neighbor kid install an amp in his Mits Eclipse.  We got the HU out and traced out the wires needed to install his amp.  Got all done and the unit says "SEC DISK".  He bought the car about 2 months ago, used of course.  I am guessing its the security feature of this unit, when we unpluged the units power cord, it thought it was being removed and is now in the security mode??  From what I have read, the only way to clear it is use the first CD that was played, who knows, or send it in to the factory with proof of purchase of the car??  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Lyle Pfeifer

Lyle, the CD6423 has a rotating digital encryption system. You will need to either send the unit to Eclipse or go to a Eclipse authorized dealer and have them get a new rotating unlock code for the unit.

Guess I should of read the owners manual before trying to help.  What happens to these units installed in cars when the battery goes dead or is replaced?  We had it disconecet for about an hour or so as we ran the wire from the battery to the amp along the rocker and the speaker wire and remote turn on wire to the unit.  Has dinner and finished up.  Looks like this could really bite if you lost power for any length of time to your car.  Lyle Pfeifer

If the cd player is coded and there is any interuption in power, the unit is totally useless until it is unlocked.

Thanks for the info Rob.  Never would of thought helping this kid out would turn out this way.  I always like to get the power off of these units before insatalling or changing things on them.  I do beleive the first thing in any installation manual is to disconect the battery before continuing, but I learned a good leson the hard way, know what your dealing with first.  I guess if you own one of these units, you better hope the day doesn't come that the battery goes dead in your car and you don't have the "CD key."
