would it be...or would it not be a good idea to fiberglass inside of the doorpanel of my car to help reinforce the speaker location and also make the door a little heavier and create some sound dampening effect?...does this happen with fiberglass?...or am i waisting time, money and energy?...not the whole door...just in the general area where the speaker mounts to?...i have a 97 civic coupe and the speaker mounts to the door...i upgraded the sotck speakers and they sound awful...i am sure its because i am losing alot of enery via mounting the speak to flimsy plastic...i am going to amp them tonight...but i know if i dont do something they will still sound terrible..just louder...any opinions...cheap DIY sound deadening....is appreciated...

Having a solid baffle does help for SQ. Do what you have to to make the baffle as solid as possible. Fiberglassing the back of the panel will help add weight to the door panel and will also help attach the speaker to the panel, so it's a win-win situation.

i try to fiberglass small round boxes for my door speakers about the size of a cool whip dish but usually i make them a little bigger. ive done it a few times it make even some factory speakers sound as good as aftermarket!!! almost anyway.

if you completely airtight seal door speakers though isn't it bad for them since most of them are designed for freeair/infinite baffle usage?

fiberglass reminds me of peanut brittle... but fiberglass tastes better!

Depends on the brand and model, some perform better in a small box

I know in my car the door was pressed cardboard and very flimsy, I took out and filled all the 'terrain' in the panel with expandable foam (the stuff boat builders use).

It added little weight but was *much* more solid, no rattling at all when playhing the stereo.

whats up kaace, i have a 98 civic ex and i am going to do the door panel over and fiberglass the hole slot where the factory speaker was at, kinda like a miniature sub box. hopefully it will come out looking like this Fiberglassing Door Panels -- posted image.
