I'm using one right now and I can guarantee minimum 3000 feet and have measured over 5000 feet! New Viper 5900 1 Mile Unit -- posted image.

We measured this is in major cities not some desert! In fact we needed to communicate via cell phones because we couldn't see the parking lights of the vehicle any more!

You can't simply change the antenna and transmitter of a 564 platform....you need to change the brain as well.

There will be two versions available: a 2-way LCD and a 1-way. Look for it soon!

hey Big Dog, did you find a noticeable time lag before the remote responds on yours?  i find this new unit is very similar to the Valet 554R i had a few years back.. it's at least  3-4 seconds before the transmitter confirms the command... whereas my old one was pretty much instantaneous.....also, i noticed that the unit only pages (TX & RX ) about every 12 seconds or so as opposed to my old Matrix 3.5 that paged about every 2-3 seconds....

trying to extend battery life?

the programming button on the back is a nice touch tho.... i hated trying to press all 4 buttons at the same time on the old one.....

It would be nice if DEI put an install guide for the new units on directechs.com.
Any other new features with the new units? I'm assuming they have all the features of the Viper 5000, just better range.

Kevin, it's not as latent in responding as 554R but it is a second slower than Responder. It averages about one to two seconds between button press and response back however the instant I press the button, the car recieves the signal - no delay there.

A feature I liked is that it's similar to 564 and 3301 platforms making it easy to swap  for those wanting to do upgrades - and believe me, once they try SST, they will upgrade.

What kind of range did you get in your neck of the woods?

well i parked outside my shop and started walking...  after about 6 blocks i tried it and it worked, after 8 blocks i tried it and it worked, after 10 blocks i tried it and it worked... at that point i decided unless i wanted to have to call a cab to get back to the shop i better start heading back.... at that point it was already at least 3-4 times the distance of my Matrix 3.5.....

some new features i like are the programming button on the back, the option of adjustable diesel timer mode as opposed to wait to start input and FINALLY the adjustable cold start timer mode run time ( it always seemed too long to have the unit run for it's programmed run time every 3 hours) with the Bitwriter its programmable from 1-16 minutes and i have mine set at 5.....

some of the features they incorporated into the 10.5 (Viper 5000) i am surprised are missing, like the ability to adjust the impact sensor via the remote...and as i mentioned it TX and RX's about every 10 seconds as opposed to every 3-4 on the old Matrix 3.5, but that is what really eats up the battery life so i am hoping i get more than a month out of a battery with this new unit....   overall i give it a thumbs up.....

how about you? what city are you in? get the chance to test it in any heavy RF zones?
