I just recently bought a 2006 VW Jetta 2.5 and installed my system into it from my other vehicle. My aftermarket stereo is in, and everything works just fine... but my question is: with an aftermarket deck, are the canbus+ and - wires useless (and should be capped off), or, if they can be used, how do they hook up to the aftermarket deck? I've never seen the canbus wires before so this is the first time i've had to deal with them. Any guidance would be great. (dunno if this helps, but the brand and model of the deck is an Alpine CDA-9813).

Which harness did you use and from what company ? THe canbus wires are used to give the deck a switched power source and RAP , other than these the canbus wires are not used.

I used some soundgate pieces previously in a Volks Touareg for switched, constant and I believe that some steering wheel controls are via canbus.

thank you for your responses. Here's the thing... when i bought the vehicle, the owner before me had an aftermarket radio in the dash as well, but they 'hacked' off the factory connector and somehow wired it in that way (im currently waiting on VW to ship me the connector for the harness...), so i have dealt with hard wiring my deck in. I was told as well that the canbus wires may also control some steering wheel functions and other things. Could not using the canbus wires trigger an airbag malf light?
