Got a lot done today, but it wouldn't appear that way.  Just got the grounds done and some cables secured on the underside.  Ran out of screws twice (mis-counted) and had to run to Lowes twice!  Now I have the power leads done on the amp rack, as well as the grounds.  Tomorrow I work on the Turn-On leads and wiring up the relay.  Then comes the speaker wires.  Also need to drill a 2-1/2 inch hole to mount my gauge since I have no intention of mounting in under or in my dash.

Hey, I'm getting closer!  Yesterday I had a slight delay because I ran out of my 8g gold ring terminals and had to drive all around town for an hour to find more!

So here are the latest 3 shots from today.  Nothing special.  Just the ground stuff done.

I know, it certainly should not take this long to design, build and  set up an amp rack.  But I only do it between nice days when I'm out on the bike!  And I don't like to rush.  This weekend is going to be sunny and yes, I already have rides planned.  But Thursday will be a day  in the garage, as will Monday.

YOU tell ME: which would YOU rather play with on sunny days?...

THIS?

Or THIS?

Not much accomplished today, but I did spend a couple hours hooking up my turn-on leads and securing more cables on the underside of the rack.  I know, the groovy speghetti looking cables are a bit more than needed, but hey, no audio cables will be crossing or touching power cables.  And most cables are going around others where ever possible.  The red are obviously power, the silver are grounds, and the blue are turn-ons.  All run from the amps and crossover to the 3 distribution blocks.

So what's left?  Speaker cables, a gauge I decided to mount in the amp rack rather than inside the car, and setting it in the car! Oh, and the relay for the turn-ons needs to be wired up, but that's a quick connection.  I know, some of you are anti-relay and swear I don't need them.  But I spent too much on my deck and system to take the chance.  Relays are a couple bucks.  So I'll continue to use relays when I can.

After things get into the trunk, then comes running the speaker cables and hooking up the Optima.

Today's stuff...

Thanks!  Myself, I tought the wires looked like crap.  But I was trying my best to not overlap cables or bunch them up, and I didn't want anything to hang down from the underside after the rack is laid down.  Hence all the screws and holders and fancy routing job.

The good news (okay, better news) is that I'm getting closer than I've been in 5 months to having it all ready to hook up.  Problem is, this weekend is all sunny and warm, so I've already rode my bike over 600 miles, with another ride planned for today and Monday.  But Tuesday and Wednesday are supposed to rain, so it's back to the car stereo!  Basically the only things left on the amp rack are running the speaker cables and main power cable plus ground.  Then I lay it in the trunk and start hooking up the battery.  To me, I think the hardest part of it all is going to be figuring out how to get the crossover adjusted properly.

Updates as soon as I have some more!

Coolness! I don't get many replies from Kenwood fans. I've had nothing but good luck with their products, car AND home audio. Ironically, even though I made up my mind on my new system I'm getting in the next week or two and decided on the KDC-X494 heat unit, I was just searching on Sonic through ALL decks and clicked on the features I want, and the results kept getting narrower and narrower and it came down to only TWO decks! One was a Pioneer with a really small display about an inch high by 3 inches wide (but it was the only deck with 24 FM presets) and the Kenwood KDC-X494! How ironic is that?

What I wanted in a deck is:
Front USB input
Front 3.5mm input
3 sets of 4V RCA outputs
Remote
Detachable face
Single DIN size
In stock and available

The Kenwood KDC-X494 came up in each search category! It has what I want and doesn't have what I don't want!

The new system is going to be double (if not triple) what the one in the Stratus was! It consists of:

Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X494 (head unit)
Precision Power PPI S200.2 (front amp)
Precision Power PPI S420.2 (rear amp)
Precision Power PPI S1300.1D (sub amp)
Infinity Kappa 693.9i (rear speakers)
Infinity Kappa 63.9i (front speakers)
Pioneer Champion Pro TS-W3002D2 (subs)
Clarion EQS746 (equalizer)

It's going to pump out over 1500 watts RMS! Not even sure of the peak output!
