I got a 64 Impala, 283. I welding all the useless holes shut and fiberglass it smooth on the firewall. I've been thinking about putting a sheet of carbon fiber across it, mainly to look cool, but I'm not sure if it will hold up. I've seen some hoods and panels that have UV damage and was wondering if the engine heat would also do this?
Its got a 283 V8, so the engine temp will be 160-220. The engine will be mainly stock and I wont be racing it, also it will be my daily driver....one day.

I do not think carbon fiber has a problem with heat of an engine compartment. They make brake rotors and brake pads out of the stuff. The blemishes you have noticed in the past is probablu\y from the resin/epoxy in which it was laid. i have no idea how that holds up to heat. There is also some stuff out there that has the "carbon fiber look" I have no idea of it's heat properties. What you saw may have been this compound as well.

Thanks for the info and after more research, I'm going to pass on carbon fiber. Not to be cheap, more like poor, I cant spend afford to spend 200 buck on something isnt useful or seen often.
3M makes the vinyl stuff, looks pretty cool, but still pricey.
