Hi,
I have an old kenwood car stereo which I would like to use in the house. It's a 1999 CD/Rx model KFC 215S.
If anyone here could offer some advice or helpful hints on how I could do this that would be wonderful

A pair of book shelf speakers and a stabilised power supply* delivering a minimum of 10 amps.
*Not a battery charger.
At which point you will find it cheaper to buy a home unit.

Thank you howie and oldspark.
I forget to mention I have two kenwood KFC S695 140W speakers which I bought with the stereo back in 1999, mounted in proper speaker boxes, nice heavy speaker wire and ready to go.
So what I need is a 10A , 14V, power supply which I'm guessing is costly.
Any easy way to test the system before I put it in the classifieds?
It hasn't been used since 2004. |

Alpine 9831 Head unit: Can I use the power of the built-in amp to power to four front/rear speakers, and still use the sub out -puts to an amp that'sgoing to power two 12"s, without using any high-to-low level adapters or special plugs, just the RCA's ? Yes, the amp does have built-in crossovers, so does my amp. And I still have in my garage............

The new poster, yes you can use the head unit but for domestic use in your home you're going to need the amps power rating, say the fuse on it = 40 amps plus if the Alpine is a high power unit, say another 15 amps = a stabilised 60amps+ power supply = about $300!!!

I just found out a 7A power supply will cost around 100 bucks.
So that's out.
Can I use power supply from a desk top computer? I have one here and it's a DELL Model HP-233SNF.
Here are the specs on the supply itself:
AC input(60/50Hz): 115V
DC Output:
+5v === /29A, +12v === /6A
-5v === /0.3A, -12v === /0.3A
MAX OUTPUT POWER: 230W +3.3V=14A
FUSE RATING: T6.3A/250VAC =5VFP=1.2A
Seems like a long shot... but any ideas if this might work.
I don't see a power button on the supply anywhere either. Tons of cables/wire harnesses plugged into it. Long shot for sure, at least for me I'm already way in over my head here  |

Which is about 7% of the power you will need.
