I am attempting to install a remote starter, Avital 4103L in connection with Xpresskit DB-ALL by-pass. I am using the D2D connection between the units. The instructions for both are not clear of what wires are not needed when using the D2D communication cable. The bigger problem though is I am having trouble locating the neccessary wires inside the vehicle. From what i can tell there are 7 connections that I need to make to the care itself. I am completely new at this so, the more specific or explicit you can be the better please. I have identified similar function wires on each unit and paired them but not sure all the extra wire connections are necessary. All suggestions or help are greatly appreciated. -Jon

Do yourself a favor and skip on the d2d. There have been many reliability issues with using the d2d on DEI units. w2w is a lot more reliable and easier to troubleshoot down the road... and it only takes a few more minutes while prepping the unit.
As far as the connections in the car, go to either wirecolor.com or readyremote.com for the wire diagram for your car. Then if you have more questions, you can ask specifically which wires. A lot of us don't have the time to give step by step directions for a remote start install... it would just take too long. But we are more than welcome to help with any specific questions you may have.
And as always, check every wire with your DMM before making any connections. Don't just assume that because a wire is the right color, in the right spot that is listed in the diagram that it is in fact the wire you need. TEST EVERYTHING!

I totally understand. (Rookie posting) So then with W2W i'm basically matching up the wires from each box with similar functions. For example, I match wire from the DB-ALL for 'door status' with the wire from the Avital for 'ground when locked'. Also does the DB-ALL actually get wired into the diagnostic connector. The instructions shows running a wire for J2850 to PIN 2 of the ABDII diag connector. It appears like most of the connections are between the boxes and only a handful to the actual vehicle.

(Thanks for your patience)

the wiring between them will match up. The door status will go to the door trigger of the avital, lock output of avital to lock input of bypass, etc. It will almost always be an output of one module to the input of the other. i don't know the directions exactly for that unit, but the obdii connection sounds right.

OK, so I connect the matching wires but for example both the starter unit and the bypass have wires for the brake. Do I simply run both wires to the brake wire in the car? And regarding the brake wire, do I gain access to that by opening the plastic box mounted to the brake pedal arm? Thank you to all of you guys offering guidance and suggestions. You are a great resource for true beginners like myself.

Keep an eye on input vs. output. For example, the brake wire output of the DB-ALL will connect to the brake wire input of the remote starter.
Here is the install guide for the DB-ALL on that vehicle. Follow install diagram 3.

I have connected most of the wires between the Avital starter and the DB-ALL.

A few things I am trying to figure out:

Parking lights - I have one wire from the DBALL as an INPUT(+)  and one wire coming from the starter with a 10amp fuse attached (no designation made of whether this is OUTPUT or INPUT). So do I splice these two together and then attach them to the headlight switch? Or do I only run one to the switch?  The starter is configured for a negative(-) light flash output. As shown in the link that you gave me for the DBALL there are 2 wires (Violet/Green) INPUT and (Violet/Brown) OUTPUT which also run to the headlight switch.

Brake wire - I have one from the DBALL labeled for OUTPUT and one wire from the starter labeled Brake Switch Shutdown Wire(+). Do I simply run both of these the brake switch box mounted at the top of the brake pedal arm?

Locking/Unlocking doors - I have already connected the two DBALL wires (Blue and Green) INPUT wires to the two starter wires (Blue and Green) OUTPUT wires to each other. There is a (GREEN / WHITE)(-) Door Status OUTPUT wire coming from the DBALL which the diagram shows going to the starter but there is no Door Status wire labeled on the starter. The only thing that comes close in my mind is an Orange one labeled Ground When Locked(-). So I'm not sure which attaches to the car wiring to actuate the locks or if the attach to each other.   OR does the starter Orange Ground When Locked attach to the DBALL (Blue/White)(-) Ground When Armed (GWR - status) INPUT?

We'll start with these and I have a couple of others. You guys do a great job!

First, being new to R/S installs, did you get the DB-ALL flashed with the correct firmware?

It should be 401.CHRYSLER2 v1.04.  Going W2W is best.

This info will be specific for the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Avital 4103. Your 4103

might be a newer model than the shown connector listing but the wire name and color will be
the same.

Kreg, this is great!! Thanks. I am actually just a DIY-er installing this as a gift to a friend. I am not sure how to confirm the version of Firmware I have except to look at the bottom of the module itself. It says - HW:3.53  SW:3.03  DT: 11k  IDL6598484

Does this help at all... if I'm up a creek please tell me at least 1 paddle(a shred of hope)

The only sure way to verify the actual firmware flashed on to the DB-ALL module is with the XKLoader2  USB cable and an internet connection.  The place where you purchased the bypass should have asked your preference and flashed it before shipment.  There are currently 16 firmwares available to support a wide array of vehicles and applications. Here is a link for more specific info on the DB-ALL.  http://www.xpresskit.com/product.aspx?productid=461   I can't tell from that label.   If you don't know for sure and want to be safe, try a local shop or a Best Buy.
