 Topic: duetto trunk relay blows fuses

I have installed a Duetto remote entry door lock and trunk release kit on a 2000 Miata. The trunk release continues to blow fuses. The door actuator works fine.
Below is how I have the relay wired:
#30 - yellow - positive from the battery
#86 - blue - positive from the battery
#85 - brown - receives the negative charge from the remote computer
#87a - black - nothing - its closed off with a cap
#87 - red - connected to the solinoid
my sense is that the negative charge from the remote computer completes the circuit for the coil, engaging numbers 30 and 87, sending a positive charge to the solinoid, activating it, thus opening the trunk lock. And then the fuse link on numbers 30 and 86 blows. The fuse does not blow after the coil is engaged, but does after the release solinoid activates. Why or how does the solinoid activate, and then the fuse blows? Thanks - revsmx5 |

The relay is correct, what's your fuse rating. You could have a faulty solenoid.
Try wiring directly to your battery via a fuse of the same rating and see what happens.
You will also need a 1N4004 diode on the wire to 85, band away from relay.

FINALLY!!!! I got it. I rewired the solenoid's relay to emit a negative charge, instead of positive; wired the solenoid directly to a positive charge with a fuse. Thus, the negative charge from the relay, completes the circuit in the solenoid and the trunk pops open. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. No popping fuses.... thanks for the help.... revsmx5 |
