Here is my issue. I just installed a JL 10w3v3-2ohm (powerwedge system with JL box) in my SUV. I am using a JL xd300/1 amp (class D, 300w rms @2ohms). The sub sounds good, no distortion, etc. Yet, I feel that it's not loud and deep enough for this suv. I never had an suv before and only used 1 10inch sub in my previous car, in the trunk. I was satisfied with that. So, now, I am wondering about either going with 2 10inch subs, "lesser" quality than the w3v3 because I'm not going to change my amp, so wiring 2 4ohm subs together, or just moving to a single 12inch that is ported. Space is somewhat of an issue because I still want to use the 3rd row seats.
I know that this is typically a matter of preference, but I am new to SUVs. When I move the current sub to the 2nd row, it sound close to what my car used to sound like. So, I believe it's an issue of the sub volume not "reaching" the driver and passenger seat as much as I want. I also feel that it's not as deep as my car because maybe the previous 10 collected could build sound in the trunk, as if it's another box? Anyway, I was thinking of going with a 12 so it could go deeper and a little louder with the ported box. I listen to music with a lot of bass, but I mostly want to know that the subwoofer is there at lower and mid volumes. Now, I have to crank up the system all the way to hear the sub. Will the 12 work in the way that I want it to or should I go with 2 10s? Thanks for your input. |
