My 1995 Maxima's cruise control has quit working properly. While I can still turn the system on, locking in and maintaining speed does not take place. As soon as I let my foot off of the gas pedal, my engine speed immediately begins to decrease and I am back on the gas. This happens at no matter what speed I attempt to use the cruise control at.
I have checked fuses both underneath the hood and under the dash but all fuses related to the cruise control are good. I am not sure what else I should check and so with that, I turn to you, the teeming masses. I would appreciate whatever you can tell me, especially because I have a 12 hour road trip coming up soon.
Thanks in advance.

Actuator, or actuator cable failure.
