Bridge 4ch amp to 1 sub

Hello, I'm a newbie and I recently purchesed a cheap 50 dollar jensen 4 channel amp (LXA-400). There's a built in control on the amp that lets me sellect how many channels to use. I'm using the bridged 2 channel that sends out 150 RMS per channel. I'm only using it on a 10 inch dual voice coil 300RMS sub with peak at 400. Is it possible and safe to bridge the wire on the outside of the amp so that I can hook up 300 to the sub? I know jensen amps suck and are weak so i'm betting it doesn't really send out 150rms per channel. Thanks

is the rating for the amp when it's in 2-channel mode, taken at 2 ohms or 4 ohms?  And does your sub have dual 4-ohm voice coils?  or are they 8 ohm? 2 ohm?

Hello, Thanks for responding, I checked the specs of my amp and it says 2x150 watt RMS bridged into a 4ohm load. And i just checked my speaker again, it's actually 200RMS and 400max, it's 4ohm dual voice coil. Thanks

Whatever you do, do not use both bridged channels on the same DVC sub. With only 1 4ohm DVC sub, you can wire in parallel to get a 2ohm load on 1 non-bridged channel on the amp. You do not want to run more than 1 channel (includes 1 bridged channel which is technically 2 channels combined into 2) from the amp to a DVC sub or you'll fry the sub. If you had a sincle 2ohm DVC then you could wire in series for the bridged 4ohm load. If you had a second 4ohm DVC sub then you could wire them together in parallel/series and achieve the 4ohm load, then bridge. What's you budget? Are you willing to buy more equipment, or are you wanting to stay with what you've got now?Squirrel

if you have a dvc sub run the bridged left side to one coil and the bridged right to the other coil no problem. Jenson does not have enought power to blow out a candleBig Dave

It doesn't take much power to split a DVC when you send signals from 2 seperate channels like that. It is possible to run each coil independantly like speedwayaudio said, but it is not recommended. You can get more info on it hereSquirrel
