Hello,

I own a 1997 Grand Cherokee with the stock infinity sound system. Recently i have replaced the stock head unit with an Alpine CDA-9811. Everything is working great with this head unit but I am going to add a 4 channel amp to power my speakers and a seperate 2 channel amp to power my Kicker Solobarics. I have everything ready to be installed but i am unsure how to remove my stock infinity amp and still use the wires that come out of the wiring harness that plugs into the stock amp. Has anyone done an install like this and used the jeeps stock wiring to wire it to the new 4 channel amp. I know the jeep has 6 speakers, Two In dash tweeters and four 6.5 speakers, another question i have is are all the 6.5's in the car Full range speakers? please reply because im kind of stuck in a bind.

My kid and I did his 97 Grand Cherokee, and I ended up running new wires to the front door speakers and the dash tweeters. The stock front speakers are oddball 3-hole mounted 6.75" midrange drivers. I used mounting adapters and XTC foam baffles with polk EX602a coaxials. In the back the factory speakers are also the oddball 3-hole mounted 6.75" speakers, but they are coaxials. Again I went with the polks with the adapters and baffles. Ran the stock tweeters off a JVC KD-LH1100 head, the door speakers off a JBL 4040 Power amp and the 2 10" Polk EX10 subs in a sealed powerwedge box off a JBL BP300.1 amp. These amps fit great under the rear seats. I had removed the factory amp and tire jack to mount them to plywood subfloors cut to fit the floor pan. I found the rear speaker wires at the factory amp plug (trial&error) and used computer pins to connect the amp outputs to the plug. Also used speaker wire adapters at the door speakers. NO cut wires anywhere. This system sounds incredible at all volumes( and it IS pushed hard), and the cost? Less than $500 off Ebay.

And something else to remember; the factory infinity speakers are 2ohm. And if you mount the amps under the rear seats make sure they will close with the amps installed. There are hinge alignment tabs that will hit the amps when you drop the seats down.
