Hi,

I recently fitted a clifford concept 300 and intellistart into my 200sx (s14a). The unit originally came out of my old subaru wrx.

All was working, except for the intellistart cranking time, the car wouldn't start on the first attempt. I decided to set the crank longer via the software (Cliffwizard 2.2 installer version) and this is when it went downhill!

The car now wont stay on via the intellistart, the car will crank correctly and fire up, but only stay on for approx 10secs before it switches itself back off again. I have followed the instructions through the forum, and have set the RPM sensing again via the valet switch. I get two chirp confirmations but the car just wont stay on.

Im baffled as to what may of gone wrong? im assuming all was well with the settings from when it was set up in the subaru, but since the connection of the cliffwizard somethings gone wrong.

Im pointing towards the RPM single, but have checked the wire and it does indeed show a alternating signal.

Can anyone shed any light on what i may be doing wrong? or point me in the right direction?

thanks

hetz

Redo the tach manually, checking your tach wire, use a DMM, set to 20 VAC red probe to suspect wire and black probe to ground, you should get 2-5VDC, slightly more if you increase the revs.
Throw away 2.2 it's sooo glitched and get version 1.1 if you can. I keep 1.1 on an old laptop and dongle 2.2 when I need it which is hopefully as rarely as possible.

thanks for the reply howie,

Had a look again today, changed the RPM signal wire to the back of the tacho, still no joy intellistart problems -- posted image.

I tried manually setting the RPM via the valet switch on numerous times and still nothing, car switches on via remote start and immediately switches off.

one think which i found rather wierd is i tried to manually set the RPM via the car switched off (not running) and the system bleeped twice as if it had picked up the signal? i was checking to see if it was working correctly, i was under the impression it would only bleep once?

Im planning on having another crack it again tomorrow, will get the multimeter and do some further testing.

im hoping i can finally get to the end of this one! intellistart problems -- posted image.

ER CHECKED TACH WITHOUT ENGINE RUNNING? intellistart problems -- posted image.
How are you supposed to get a reading?
Also make sure you don't have 2 starter wires. I picked up a 2000 Almera, also a 300 + Intelli+ other goodies, trunk release, warn away, closing and that had 2 starter wires.

BLACK/ white is ignition.
Blue or blue/pink is ACC.
BLACK / YELLOW starter 1.
BLACK/ blue starter 2.
The above info is from a 98 200SX, the latest year I can find, I'll look up Laurel/Sylvia next in case you have one of those, meanwhile test your leads at the ignition loom.
How to wire a second starter with an I/Start; Obtain a standard 5 pin relay.
Blue/Orange from I/Start (status output, AKA GWR) to 85 with an inline diode, 1N4004* band towards I/Start.
12v+ constant fused at 30 amps to 87.
Loop from I/start starter output WHITE/ blue to 86
Second starter from 30.
* You can also use this wire via a second relay to keep your indicators on during a remote start:
Blue/orange, again via the same diode as above to 85.
12V+ constant via a 20 amp fuse to 86 and 87.
Connect to the brown indicator wire on the 300 at 30 via 2 x 1N5404 diodes, bands away from relay.

Hi howie,

when i checked the tach without the car running, i was checking to make sure it would beep once to say that there was no signal present, i understand it wouldnt pick up a signal.

I taped into the TAM point on the back of the speedo which has the tacho output, ill try splicing into the green wire tomorrow.

There's only one starter wire present.

I just cant get my head around what the cliff wizard has done? everything was working correctly, all i wanted to do was extend the crank time. intellistart problems -- posted image.

I NEVER, EVER use version 2.2, just tell them to let it try again, apart from which V 1.1 is the correct version for a G4 300.
By the way 10-15 seconds run time is symptomatic of no tach connection.
Don't worry about getting screwed by the Whiz, you certainly aren't the first, this problem came up and was never dealt with 5 years ago!

well it didnt go to plan, i plugged in a mates laptop with the cliffnet wizard on as it works fine on his clifford.

My alarm decided to immobilise itself and no longer allow me to log back in. it errors that the valet code is incorrect. Ive currently stripped it out and about to start my install with a concept 650 this time.

hope all goes to plan this time round!
