There is a post up here that talks about the 5 wire locks on a 2000 Ram. Being found in 2 locations. In the kick, behind the classic plastic bag insulation, AND at the keyless/timer module. Will these wires test 5 wire, or POS(+) pulse? I am fixing to do a 99 Ram on Monday. NO transponder, no factory keyless, no power nothin. The notes from the strochrt say " LOCK, ORANGE / purple. UNLOCK, pink/purple. REV POLARITY." sidenote "can also be found a keyles module on the right side of column" colors are LOCK ORANGE / black, UNLOCK, pink/black. These can't be five wire going into a keyless module...... can they?

Heres the post on the 2000. https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=91804&PN=1

Keyless models use positive trigger for lock, and 5-wire for unlock. Can also find wires at the central timer module to the right side of the steering column, lock is ORANGE / green, unlock is pink/green.

It's been a while for me but I remember always using the wires out of the boot and doing a straight 5 wire, they do shpw positive. I tried a short cut once and nearly burnt the keyless module up. Like my dad always said keep it simple. Like most poeople that have done it for a while and I am sure you know it is safer to build relays than try to short cut your way around.

Truth be it, I am in sales....It's been a long time since I was a "steady" installer. So forgive my old age! and lack of brain power. Lock will test POS(+) at the module, and unlock will tes 5 wire at the same location......correct?

And thank you, or course!

Just be safe and 5 wire the wires instead. If you really want to know if it's a 5 wire system cut one of the target wires and both the lock and unlock will not operate. If you cut one of the wires and only the unlock or the lock stops to work then it's a (+) system. If unsure of this procedure, it's always afe to isolate and use type C 5 wire for the door locks to isolate and protect the switch from burning out.

I agree with Velocity.....I did a 99 or 2000 not too long ago. The lock and unlock were at the keyless, but i kept smoking the lock and unlock output.( car would work fine for 3 or 4 cycles) Ended up having to cut the wires, insert diodes and then hooking up the lock, and unlock. Just use the five wire and call it a day.

Exactly 5 wire is the easiest way to go for convienence and the not messing with again factor.

Jeff, I cut the lock wire, it only affected the lock side of the switch. Wired it as 5 wire and it functioned correctly.....! Am I going to be in for a little surprise later on down the road? (burned up switch)

I wouldn't think so the older chevy's would still work on the other side of the switch when cut them. And they were 5 wire also.
