I had seen a guy make these years ago and I thought were a pretty cool security device. He used a timing switch and a magnetic reed switch to trip the timer which allowed the car to start. If you waived a magnet over the reed switch which was hidden it the car you had a certain time period to start the car otherwise it would not start. Also, I'd like to include a override switch that will allow it to start by either bypassing the dei or making it active all the time. This will keep everyone from knowing where you reed switch is. I've bought a DEI 528T timing switch but I'm not quite sure how to make this work. I've included a diagram of the parts and there may be some things missing but I think it can be done with parts listed. Is this possible to do this with this timer and how would I wire it up to the ignition and reed switch? Thanks
1 - 528T Timing switch
1 - magnetic reed switch
1 - override switch (though don't know if it can be used with this timer)

Worked! Thanks, do you think it is safe to run the ignition through the DEI timer or should I use another relay. I don't think there are very many amps at all for the ignition.

The timer can handle 30 amps.

The coil of the starter relay is Milliamps (or less than 1 amp.)

Appreciate the help, my next project, using one of these or something similar to shut my sun roof when power is turned off? I just got the new truck and I forget to shut it, well last night we had several inches of rain in my 40k truck.

Believe it or not I have never actually seen one of these timers. I would love to tear one apart and copy what is inside.

yeah the are too big for what is inside, I bet it could be shrunk down to about 1/4" size or at least half.

You could use surface mount components to make it real small. But, The relay must be big to handle the current. Unless you make a version that uses an external common relay.
