Hi to all,

I have been trying to build the latched on / off output relay system with a single momentary pulse, (located on this site), and cannot get it to switch off. The power supply I am using is a 12 volt dc bench unit. I have tried to switch a LED, a 12v 55watt lamp, and a SPDT relay as I thought the load may influence the result. All wiring has been checked against the circuit diagram, all the wiring continuity has been checked, with no fault found. I have tried both the 5 relay (no diodes), and the 4 relay (diode) versions. Same result with both. Negative pulse switches on, but I must kill the 12v+ supply to turn it off.

Have I missed something? has anyone else built this and got it working?

Regards,

Trev01.

As I was typing the help note, I had a new thought . Checking the relay operations, I discovered 1 relay had a subtle difference. Yep, one is not a SPDT relay. Has the two output pins, but they are linked internally.

Oh well, red face and all, I can now get it to work.

you can also do with with electronic components, and 1 relay, would draw less current but would require more than just relays...

or you can just go and buy a mechnical latching/unlatching relay relay

really? i have never seen a relay that toggles like that, the only ones i see require the polarity to be reversed to toggle Latched on/off output with single pulse -- posted image.

xetmes, these are PCB mounted relays. Each time you energize the coil, the contacts will either stay closed or stay open, similar to the action of a ball point pen with each click of the button on top. I had a local supplier for these some time ago and I only have one of these relays left. As soon as I find another supplier for them, I'll share it with everyone. Here's another topic using this relay: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=10506

Trev01, glad to hear you found the problem. BTW, the SPST dual make relay you have is great to use when you need to wire parking lamps on vehicles with independent left and right parking lamp circuits (Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, etc.)

wow thats cool, i only see latching relays that need the polarity reversed to toggle state, that sure would make toggle applications easier.
