Just finished the install. I still need to do the parking brake and the VSS.
When I go to the NAVI screen, It first started off in Los Angeles! I'm in my driveway just outside of Boston! I reset the thing and then it changed to start in Manhatten!   WTF?
The GPS and NAV antenea are set in the dash, next to the glovebox. They are magnetized so they stick to the foil pad and then the flat metal bar holding up the dash.
Is this just a bad spot for the sensors? What is the best spot for both in an Toyota 4Runner?

You said "in" the dash.  What for?  It should be on top of the dash.  And which antennas are you talking about?  They only come with one.  Think of it like satellite TV, you need line of sight with the satellites to get an accurate reading.  Mine is on the dash, all the way forward, as close to the windshield as I could get it.  When you first start up, the disks will often show a different location for a few moments until it triangulates your location.  The west coast disk starts you in LA like you mentioned.  Not sure where the east coast disk starts.  You should go into the nav menu and check the connection status to make sure the satellites are lit up once you move the antenna onto the dash.  This will let you know if you have the antenna in an okay place.

OK, this makes more sense. Is their a place that's hidden that will be best for the TWO anteneas? Yes TWO, One comes with the AVIC-N@ and another for the XM Sat/Navtraffic box.

I have my antenne installed "on top of my car"-best place for it....not inside the car.....As for the Starting position...its got to start somewhere, have the correct disc in and hit reset bro.  The eastcoast disc starts from manhattan, west- L.A.   Give a second er two.........but seriously, best place for antenne....On top of car...so u can walk around the car and be able to see it at all times-angles-never should it be hidden or obstucted.

The XM antenna will definitely work best on the roof.  My nav antenna always works fine on the dash

Mine was installed next to my gps antenna on the dash by the windsheild and every now and then while im driving on open roads the xm will go silent for about 2-3 seconds then come back.  I think Im going to relocate it to the roof.

Has anyone tried gettin a better antenna to "boost" the signal?  Any luck?

OK. So I relocated both antenea's. The 4runner dash has small vents for the defrost blower where the dash meets the windshield. I was able to snake the leads through and then through the console.
It's much better now. But while driving around, it ranged from being spot on, to 20-30 off. A few times It thought I was driving on grass (ornothing) and then re-positioned me on the road.
The 4Runner has a roof rack so I can place in next to one of the rails. Thats If I can get the leads hidden in the panels all the way to the back rear door.

Get it away from all the rails and obstructions....period. It works by line-of-sight and anything blocking the antenna's view of the sky will cause you to lose signal.
