Ok guys need a little help here. Over the weekend I installed a Pioneer AVIC D1 in my 2004 350Z. I did the bypass, but it only works some of the time. I would say about 80 percent of the time I fire up the car and I have full nav abilities. However the other 20 percent it is not working. I checked the status menu and it has always shown the parking brake to be on. The A/V is always available, but the nav menu is not always fully functional. Do you guys think maybe it could be a bad ground on either the bypass wire, or the parking brake wire. Also do the reverse/VSS wires need to be grounded. At this time I have the VSS connected, and the reverse just hanging there. I don't understand why I have such an inconsistent problem. I will be taking the dash back apart on Sunday to install the XM so any advice on what could be wrong would be great. My initial plan is to reground in different locations, and if that doesn't work I will be trying a different unit. Thanks in advance!

C'mon guys I know I am new here, but 100 people have viewed this thread and no one has anything to say? I didn't wind up taking it out this weekend, I will be doing so next weekend. Please if anyone can give me any hint at to what may be going on, I would really appreciate it.

The reverse and VSS should not just be grounded. Hook up the reverse wire, the VSS will improve accuracy but if you don't care then its not neccessary. As for you bypass issues, check all your wiring. Make sure the pin is securely in the harness, make sure you have a good connection to ground on that wire as well as the light green parking brake wire. If they are not securely connected, that could be the problem

Well VSS needs to be hooked up for proper navigation and reverse doesnt need to be hooked up. Its possible you might have a cold solder joint on your parking break wire

Ok for all of you that want to make your pioneer decks that are dvd/nav. work while in drive do the following.

Go buy a switch that you like or can hide and install it on the Green wire for the deck. everytime you want to watch a dvd or anything like that, that requires video while in motion you have to flip the switch. it will tell the deck that its in park and then you have bypassed the saftey feature of pioneer. if you have any questions feel free to email them to me.
