It seems on an install of an avic n2 in a 02 Mazda Tribute a problem is occurring regarding am/fm operation.  I am getting no audio (not even static) when the source is am/fm radio.  It displays everything properly on the screen however nothing is coming out of the speakers.  Connection to the antenna appears to be fine (in fact I thought the extension might be defective but I made the direct connect to the unit and still nothing).  Everything else is working fine,  DVD. CD, and Nav operations work perfectly both video and audio.  In talking with others they said that it is probably a defective brain (however it was working prior to this install) and when I talked with Pioneer they want both head unit and hide away returned for a flat repair fee of 200 bucks.  Anybody have any ideas before I go removing the unit that I just installed?

Thanks

It doesn't sound like an installation problem. I would send the unit in for repair.

Thanks, I think its a defective unit but just don't know what is exactly defective on it.  It appears that the hideaway is the one giving me the problem.  Now it seems that I am unable to change the clock (time zone differential) and it actually appears that the hideaway is not getting any power (fan isn't working on it at all).  It's weird that nav still appears to function and the cd and dvd playback is unaffected.  Why would the display unit power up and funtion somewhat when the hideaway unit doesn't appear to be functioning or powering up?  Does anyone know of any fuse or reset on the hideaway or could the 30 pin cable connected to the display unit be defective?  Anyone have any decent tests to isolate what it exactly is?           Thanks

Is it new?  Take it back where you bought it and ask for warranty repair.

Wish it was...sadly its beyond the warranty period and Pioneer wants the $200 to fix it.  $200 maybe the cheapest way out of it...but don't want to remove it if it is just something easy to repair/reset/rework.  Especially if they return it saying that nothing is wrong with the unit.

Thanks

How is it that you cannot change the clock? Can you go into the menu's to change the time zone? Or is it locked out? Explain this further...
There is no fan in the hideaway unit. There is a vent, however there is no fan inside the unit.
The 30 pin cable is actually the communications patch for the entire unit's display and data. The hideaway unit processes everything for the unit, including the radio, navigation, etc... The screen only reads disc's and sends controls to the brain via the buttons and touch screen. So if your navigation is working, that means both portions of the unit are working.
So so far you've only really posed two problems. The time being unable to be changed, and the radio not having any audio...

Thanks for the reply.....The time zone menu is displayed but the + and - are grayed out and attempts to add the three hours for EST can't happen, I guess that it could be called a lock out on that menu.  As for the fan...looking through the slots on the vent a small fan is visible inside the unit...I can't tell if it does anything but it definitely is there (almost like a cpu cooler style fan) which I havent heard or seen run.  Didn't know to what extent the hideaway unit controlled the operations so thanks for the info.  Can't understand why the radio is showing the stations and appears to be tuning to them but there is absolutely no audio coming from the speakers, no static, hiss or pop.  Hooked up a cd changer to the hideaway unit but couldn't even get that to recognize that it was there...even after a reset of the display unit and cd changer.  Like I said...just hate it to be a cable or something like a reset or problem with software after I pull it out to send to Pioneer for a fix.  Any suggestions?

Thanks Again

Could it be the data cable between the brain and the head unit? Take this cable out and examine it. You could try a continuity check across the cable with an ohmmeter. If not, check for kinds and bends in the cable. Perhaps it was snagged somewheres and certain signals are not making it across the cable.
