Quick question. Lately I have been reading posts about spare batteries. Since I have one I want to make sure that I have it done correctly. I noticed alot of talk about series and parallel wiring on batteries. Can someone expain how a battery is wired in series and parallel?
I know that in military humvee the two batteries are setup for 24 volt operation. Is it the same type of thing?

no it is not ,that will fry you hole car. run a isolator inbetween the two batterys to keep them seperated run the positive wire from the car battery to the isolator then from the isolator to the positive of the second battery. ground both batterys to the chassis. use proper gauge wire for your amparage draw of you system for both pos. and neg. fuses accordingly very important. this is a parrelle set up  and the humvee uses a series setup to double the voltage for it system that is all rated at 24 volts. a car is all setup a a 12volt rating. dont run it series it will damage your hole car eletrical system or atleats everything that comes first inline.

that's what i figured. from the 1st batt to the isolator, do you need a fuse?
right now I'm trying to get a h.o alternator and change the big 3. currently i have a not so great setup. i have 1/0 awg from the 1st battery to the second in the trunk, with appropriate fuse. then I have the sec battery grounded on a 1/0 inlet gold grounding post to the chassis. Does that makes sense to you?

no usaully right after the isolator and yes all that sounds to be correct. the ho alternator is the best thing you could do for you system , once the car is running the alternator is suppling the car and system, not the batterys only when the car is not running does the second battrery come into play. the reason for that is so you will not kill your cars battery. lol

I don't run a isolator. i have been running dual batts for years never used a isolator. not needed imo. my freinds dually don't have one, his wreaker has 3 batts it don't have one. my other buddys Mack truck has 6 batts it don't have one.  That's my 2 cents, your results my very.

what the isolator does is keep it seperated from the vechiles battery so you cant draw on it power and end up with a dead battery no start. that is worth it for like 60 bucks, a tow will cost you more than that. by that guys wrecker.
